Sunday 14th September 2014 Archaelogy Yorkshire - FEET will be Presenting a Short talk on the
" History and Heritage Of The Calder and Hebble Navigation "
The Presentation Slideshow will run aprox 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Aims -- A Brief introductory to the Calder and Hebble Navigation 21,5 miles running from Sowerby Bridge to Wakefield with general reference to the industrial archaeology and industrial revolution ,
- Overiew and other features of Historic interest Boats Barges and lock Houses together with other navigation features
- A Virtual tour of the Canal Route in pictures from Wakefield to Sowerby
The Practical Walk will run aprox 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Aims- A Brief History of the Nature reserve from Gravel pits to Fly Ash repository for the defunct Power Station to Town waste site
- A Look at the Habitat Mosaic on The LNR Meadow Woodland, River & Lagoon an Spagnum Bog
- Wayward we will identify over 40 Wildflowers and 20 or so Birds en route as well as other natural Histor
- A look at the Tag Cut a Loop created from the Calder and Hebble onto the River Calder enabling barges to proced onward to Elland on the bypassing the shallow flats on the River Calder circa 1790

Walks will commence at (Click For Info ) Brookfoot Lock Cottage . This is located on the Calder Hebble Canal at GridSE 13604 22876 alongside Lock 31 The nearest Post is HD6 2RW. and is located along the A6025 ( if heading toward Elland turn left into ) onto North Cut cul de sac with the Avocet factory to your front. The Lock cottage is aside the fishing lake

Aimed at Beginner to Intermediate . Main Aim to identify and give basis pointers the main Families within this huge group of Insects and with specific emphasis on Hoverflies , What will be seen will very much depend on the weather and the day . Diptera include Craneflies, Hoverflies , Soldier Flies , Sawflies , Robberflies, Ichneumons, Bumblee Bees Nomadic bees and Cuckoo Bees, True Bugs and a great deal more !!
